L00M-188LN-8 is a RG188 low noise 8 foot 50 ohm (2.44 meter) coax cable assembly with a L00 (Lemo 00 compatible) connector on one end and a 10-32 (Microdot compatible) connector on the other end.

Circular Connector Details

  • Circular connectors, also called "push-pull" or "quick connect/disconnect", are commonly used in non-destructive testing (NDT), physics, and aerospace, on transducers, flaw detectors, and other applications.
  • This style of connector was pioneered several decades ago by the Swiss connector manufacturer LEMO. Because of this history, practitioners in the industries that use this connector style still tend to call this a "LEMO connector", even though there are now multiple manufacturers making compatible connectors. "LEMO" is a registered trademark of LEMO USA.
  • We source our connectors from multiple vendors. The connector we provide to you may be made by LEMO, or may be a compatible model from an aftermarket manufacturer. If you have a preference, please feel free to contact us for a quote.
  • Our circular connectors come in two different sizes. The L00 connectors have a diameter of roughly 0.25", and are often used in physics and engineering applications for interconnection between NIM/CAMAC modules. If you are looking for the larger 0.5" diameter connector, those are over here. For further reference, see:

About M-Series Connectors

  • There are multiple sizes of connectors which practitioners tend to call "Microdot". The most common size uses 10-32 threads, but there are also 5-44 and 1/4-32 variants, as shown in this image.
  • This style of connector was pioneered by Malco in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Malco was later bought by Microdot, which was later bought by Tyco. Because of this history, users in the industries that use this connector style still call this a "Microdot connector", or even "Malco Connector", even though there are now multiple manufacturers making compatible connectors. "Microdot" is a trademark of Tyco.
  • The connectors we provide are compatibles made by various manufacturers. They are often improved designs, mechanically more durable than the original Malco connector.
  • 10-32 (M) Connector Details
    • These connectors have threads that are the same as those on a 10-32 (UNF) machine screw. They are commonly used in non-destructive testing (NDT) and aerospace, on transducers, accelerometers, strain gauges, and force and acoustic sensors, among other applications.
    • These connectors are often confused with 1/4-32 connectors; they look similar, varying only slightly in size. If in doubt, check your mating connector using a thread gauge or caliper: 1/4-32 threads have a minor diameter of approximately 5.4 mm, while 10-32 threads have a minor diameter of about 3.9 mm. See a thread chart for more details.

    About 50 ohm cable assemblies

This cable assembly has a characteristic impedance of 50 ohms. 50 ohm coax cable, connectors, and adapters are commonly used in GPS and wifi (802.11 wireless LAN) antennas, ham transceivers, and other radio frequency (RF) analog and digital signaling, microwave, radar, hi-fidelity professional audio, non-destructive testing (NDT), oil and petroleum production, ultrasonic transducers, accelerometers, strain gauges, and some professional video applications.

    About Low Noise Cable

This is a "low noise" cable, with a carbon-impregnated conductive PTFE layer added around the PTFE dielectric; this layer helps to increase shielding, dissipate static charge, and reduce mechanically-generated electrical noise as the cable is flexed. This extra protection is useful for long cable runs, low-voltage signals, high-vibration environments, in applications including aerospace, automotive, NDT, strain gauges and accelerometers, and extremely high fidelity professional audio production.

Low noise cable is generally not recommended for RF use. In our own testing, we see characteristics which differ from ordinary cable, including phase delay and impedance variations with frequency. In the field, we've seen mixed results in the GHz range; low noise cables seem to provide the best results at signal frequencies in the low MHz or lower. Ultrasonic NDT, for example, uses low-noise cable with signals as high as 100 MHz, but in transient pulse trains, where phase delay is less critical. The results you get will depend on the application, and as always you will want to do your own testing before ordering large quantities.

We hi-pot test our cable assemblies for high-voltage breakdown between core and braid. See About Hi-Pot Testing for why this might matter to you, particularly for physics or NDT applications. Caution: We make no claims as to the safety of this product for high-voltage use. These voltages can kill. Do not handle or approach any cable or conductor carrying high voltage; this includes insulated cables, nearby metal parts, water, and other conductive materials. Engineering and design for safety in your application are your responsibility.

    Customization and Ordering

    • We make our own cable assemblies. If you need a connector type that you don't see here, or if you have custom requirements, feel free to contact us.
    • RoHS compliance available upon request.
    • If you need a quantity discount quote, please contact us. We're always happy to work with distributors.
